Employee Spotlight – LUCAS JORDAN

How did you get started in this field?

I have been in the water & wastewater industry for 10 years. I studied Electrical Engineering at Ohio State University focusing on control theory. When I graduated, I started my career with an engineering firm, Malcolm Pirnie, doing consulting work for water and wastewater.

How did you learn about MR Systems?

I met Sothorn Khel, an MR Systems Corporate Sales Engineer, at the ISA symposium in 2014 after presenting on leveraging descriptive tag prefixes and suffixes to have reusable popups and trend screen. I felt that my passion for HMI was currently underutilized and that going into the field of systems integration would be a better fit.

How has MR Systems changed since you started working here?

It has been a thrill to be a part of an evolution in our HMI offering. When I started, we were just starting to look at including some high-performance concepts into the design. Now, we have several clients using the new interface and we are receiving positive feedback. It was a pleasure to present on this new interface with Robert Touchton at this year’s ISA symposium.

How has MR Systems helped your career development?

It has allowed me to become more comfortable working with Contractors and Owners through the challenges that can be present during a startup. Working here has also allowed me to expand on my technical skills.

What is your proudest moment at MR Systems?

My Proudest moment was this year when I returned to the ISA Symposium. I got to present on an HMI that is more advanced than anything I could have ever imagined before coming to MR Systems.

What are the most interesting and challenging projects you have worked on at MR Systems?

The Huntsville, Alabama Water Plant was very interesting and challenging. It was one of the first projects to utilize many of the new features of our new interface. It also was chosen to be a showcase of improvements to the background graphics. With Erik Doepke’s work on the project, the HMI has multi-monitor capability. The Owner was so pleased with the new interface and with the efforts of the project team that they are interested in future work with MR.

What advice do you have for future employees?

Don’t hesitate to dive into technical areas for which you lack experience or training and go outside your comfort zone. Sometimes, the best way to learn is to struggle through.
