How did you learn about MR Systems?

I learned about MR Systems in 2005 when I was working as a variable imaging programmer for Quebecor World’s, now Quad Graphics, direct mail division in Doraville, GA. My neighbor was telling me he had heard from his friend, Robert Touchton, about “some kind of computer job” opening at the company where Robert works. I was looking for something different, so I sent my resume to Robert. A few days later, Dennis Everette contacted me about coming in for an interview. Dennis and I talked briefly about my programming background, why I wanted to change jobs, etc, and then he proceeded to show me what MR Systems does. I was scared to death that I was diving into something completely over my head.

How has MR Systems changed since you started working here?

Many things have changed over the years. I’ve seen MR Systems double in size from both an employee standpoint as well as from a financial standpoint. MR is constantly improving, evolving, and iterating to be even better at what they do while becoming a much more polished and professional company along the way. MR has become a very forward-thinking, goal-oriented company whose focus is not only on how we do the work we’re doing right now, but also on how we’re going to do this work tomorrow. Lately, we’ve taken this thought a step further by asking “how can we shape the way this industry will do this work in the future?”.

How has MR Systems helped your career development?

I’ve learned more at MR Systems than I could ever have imagined; there are far too many acronyms, technologies, protocols, hardware, and software to reasonably list here. We’re always using some of the latest hardware, software, equipment, and gadgets on projects, and I’ve been lucky enough to work with most of them.

What is your proudest moment at MR Systems?

My proudest moment at MR was winning the Reggie Reel award in 2010. The award had only been around for a year or two, and I was completely honored and humbled to win it when there were so many other coworkers who, in my mind, had earned it and deserved it more than I did.

What was one of the most interesting or challenging projects you have worked on at MR Systems?

For me, the most interesting and challenging projects are the projects on which I learn the most when using new technology, devices, software, etc. I also enjoy developing custom features and figuring out how to add more functionality to our SCADA systems beyond the limitations of the built-in software features.

What advice do you have for future employees?

Never stop learning new skills, and always be re-imagining how to do everything better. Take pride and ownership in what we’re building for our customers, and spend the time listening to them to fully understand their needs and how they use our control systems. Many of our customers don’t fully understand how their SCADA systems can work for them. It’s up to us to show them the additional value we’re providing outside of some equipment controls and trends.
