Meet Wine to Water
Nonprofit Wine to Water’s mission is to bring clean water and sanitation to those in need around the world.
Based in Boone, NC, Wine to Water (WTW) was founded by CNN Hero Award Winner Doc Hendley. Back in 2003, Doc was a bartender in Raleigh attending classes at NC State. After learning about the worldwide water crisis, Doc encouraged friends and coworkers from several local bars and restaurants to help him raise funds for clean water projects. Together they hosted a series of successful wine tasting parties, hence the name “Wine to Water.”
Today, WTW continues its efforts to bring clean water systems to those in need. Local WTW chapters around the country, including Atlanta’s new chapter, help raise funds for this work. Please join us on June 24th for an evening of new friends and fun as we introduce the Atlanta chapter of Wine to Water, and together let’s contribute to making clean water a reality for people everywhere!
WTW Facts
- Nearly one billion people worldwide lack access to clean water. Roughly 3.5 million people die each year because of water-related illnesses. Millions more are unable to go to school or work because of debilitating pain and illnesses due to drinking tainted water.
- WTW works closely with the local communities it serves in several countries to make community-appropriate clean water systems available. It does this through various means including providing water filters, digging new wells, fixing existing wells, and delivering sanitation and water education.
- WTW encourages everyone with an interest and a sense of adventure to consider participating in one of its inspiring international volunteer trips to Amazon, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, and Nepal.
- MR Systems is a co-founder of the Atlanta Chapter of Wine to Water. Please “like us” on Facebook or join our WTW Atlanta Meetup group.
